Radio Karamveer, 90.0, A Community Radio
Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal has established Radio Karamveer with the aim of social, economic, cultural and educational development of the community living around its campus. The necessary license for this has been obtained from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
Radio Karamveer was formally inaugurated on 15th August, 2023 by Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr) K.G. Suresh. Various useful programs are broadcast daily from 11 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 6 pm by Radio Karamveer Community Radio Station on 90.0 FM frequency. Community radio broadcasts are being heard in a radius of 15 kilometers in all four directions.
Programs like Meri Maati Mera Khet, Hamare Karamveer, Meri Sehat, Guru Mantra, Prerna, Tare Zameen Par, Career Mantra, Samvad, Radio Pathshala, Bal Sabha, Republic etc. are being broadcast on Radio Karamveer. These programs are proving to be very beneficial for the community living within the range of Radio Karamveer. The signature tune and logo of Radio Karamveer were created by former and present students and the work of economy was also done. At present, the commendable work of operating the radio station is being done with only a few staff and nominal expenses.
Seeing the popularity of Radio Karamveer within a short time of its establishment, the Vijaypur unit of India’s mini Navratna public sector company National Fertilizers Company Limited i.e. NFL decided to sponsor Meri Maati Mera Khet. In this regard, a contract of Rs. 10 lakhs has been signed with National Fertilizers Limited for the production and broadcast of a total of 180 episodes. Till date, about 40 episodes have been produced and broadcast, for which an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs is to be received from NFL.
Community radio “Radio Karamveer” is playing an important role as a radio and audio laboratory for the students studying in various departments of the university. For this, programs and updated information are also being continuously made available on social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. Here the students are getting practical training in various aspects of audio program production.
Radio Karamveer tries to have more of its programmes in both audio and video formats so that listeners can get dual benefit from them. The programmes broadcast on community radio are later released through social media platforms as well. This is creating a global reach for community radio programmes.
Dr. Aashish Joshi, the founder director of Radio Karmaveer, and Dr. Paresh Upadhyay are looking after the work as the founder manager. Apart from this, Dr. Gajendra Awasya is the co-director and university teachers and officers are associated as programme officers. Production, studio related support and guidance in the programme is also being received from Dr. Monika Verma, Head of the Electronic Media Department and Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, head of the Journalism Department. There is also a plan to increase the broadcast time of the radio in the coming time, to build a studio equipped with equipment, to connect listeners in nearby villages to the programmes and to conduct research to know the reach of radio. Apart from this, the process of agreement on MoU is going on with Bhopal AIIMS and UNICEF Institute regarding the production and broadcast of programmes related to health and rural development.
