MCU to offer PhD programme after 8 years

Bhopal, 22 August, 2024: After a long wait of eight years, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, will announce new seats for its PhD programme next week. According to Vice Chancellor, Prof K G Suresh, earlier the university offered Phd in two disciplines – Mass Communication and Computer Science, whereas this time, it would offer doctoral programs in five disciplines including Mass Communication, New Media Technology, Media Management, Computer Science and Library and Information Science. Graduates who have completed 4 years undergraduate honours programme in research would be eligible to apply, apart from NET qualified candidates. The university would conduct both entrance examination and interviews for the applicants. However, NET qualified candidates would be attending only the interviews, he said. As per UGC regulations, the duration of the PhD programme would be for a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years. Prof Suresh said the University has streamlined its doctoral program in the last four years and over 35 PhDs have been awarded during the period.
