‘Report child-related cases with sensitivity’
Online lecture held to mark International Child Day by NSS Unit of MCU
Bhopal, 21 November 2020: A child is the future of the country and he or she is a very fragile and soft part of the society. A child’s rights can be taken over easily that’s why the rights have been framed considering it. Media students should have a sensitive approach while reporting in cases involving children. Their sentiments and privacy should always be kept in mind, said Member of Child Welfare Committee of Bhopal, Dr Kripa Shankar Chobey, in an online symposium on ‘Child Rights Protection’, organised by the National Service Scheme unit of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication today, as a keynote speaker. Vice Chancellor Prof KG Suresh chaired the programme.
Referring the UNCRC agreement and the JJ Act 2015, Dr Chobey shared the provisions of child rights and punishment in case of violation. Society should be made aware of child rights. He appealed media students to take up issues like child rights and write to invite the attention of the administration. The country would grow if its children are educated.
Vice Chancellor Prof KG Suresh said media students should have a sensitive approach and know more and more about such issues. In journalism, we do not learn only editing and reporting. We also learn how to have a sensitive approach to society. The prime objective of Indian journalism is to make society aware. NSS unit in-charge Dr Gajendra Singh Awasya conducted the programme.
